Origins of The Laundress
Meeting while studying textile and design at Cornell University, Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd would later move to New York City to pursue their careers in the fashion industry, where Gwen landed a job in the home division at Ralph Lauren and Lindsey worked in the ready-to-wear department at CHANEL. After working in their respective jobs for some time, an opportunity to transform the world of fabric care caught their eye, after multiple bad experiences with dry cleaners and many ruined garments that “needed to be dry cleaned”, Gwen and Lindsey felt that there had to be a solution to such a common frustration.
In 2002, the two began researching and developing a sustainable and eco-friendly serum that would ultimately revolutionise the home product care industry. While still working their respective jobs, the pair launched ‘The Laundress’ brand in 2004 with the goal of providing an effective, eco-conscious, and enjoyable laundry and home cleaning experience.
One of the key motivations for the pair was to provide a solution for consumers to clean most “dry clean only” items from home, and provide a product that would not only clean your precious possessions but preserve them. Starting with just 13 products, the fashionistas built the brand from the ground up without a single venture capitalist all the while continuing to work their day jobs, and 15 years later,The Laundress was sold to Unilever for a reported $100 million.
Today, you can findThe Laundress has grown to have a product range of over 85 individual products including laundry, home cleaning, fragrance, storage, surface cleaners, soap and collaborations with Le Labo and John Mayer among others.

The Laundress Sweater Comb
A laundry essential - Two fine metal mesh screens on a cedar wood handle gently pick up stray pills while leaving renewed yarns behind and restoring items to look like new. Simply glide in one direction over target areas. Recommended for fine-gauge wool, cashmere, merino, mohair, synthetics and more. Ideal for detailed areas like cuffs, collars and waistbands. Not recommended for use on knotty yarns or fibres.
The Laundress Fabric Fresh
No. 10 is a provocative, original scent developed to meet the standards of a luxury fine fragrance, but designed with clothing care in mind.The Laundress coupled No. 10 with the nontoxic fabric fresh for a fragrance experience that helps deodorise, too. This rich and sophisticated fragrance blends sultry spice and fresh powder notes with warm musk to round out its elegant accord.

The Laundress Home Spray
We all love our homes to smell clean and fresh - from walking through the door to snuggling into bed... Ahhhhh! This nontoxic formula with antibacterial properties adds scent whilst removing odour. Spray to freshen kitchens, bedrooms, living areas and bathrooms. Ideal for upholstery, drapery, carpets, bedding and any items shared with furry friends. For best results spray items from a 20cm distance. No. 247 scent is a fresh blend of eucalyptus with notes of pine and hints of rose, bergamot, and thyme. You may also notice hints of musk and lavender.
